[Introduction] [Curriculum Vitae] [Other Information] [Equipment Used] [Rates]
I am a freelance translator with over 25 years experience in translating Italian into English. A British subject, I recently returned to live in England, after living and working for over 20 years in Rome. Having lived in Italy for most of my adult life, I am fully acquainted with all aspects of Italian life and can translate Medical, Technical, Legal and Commercial documents.
1975-76
I worked for the Carmen Soccorsi Translating Company in Rome, specialising in medical translations.
1976-79
I then moved to the American Express Congress Division, Rome, where I was responsible for
organising medical conferences, such as The International Congress of Psychosomatic
Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Rome, 1977).
My duties included translating, interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive and ad-hoc), and preparing and proof reading abstracts for publication. I also maintained contact with conference participants, airlines, hotels and pharmaceutical companies world-wide.
1979-86
While at The University of Rome Medical School, I found that my translating skills and
conference experience were much in demand. I became involved in research, carried
out in Italian, which I translated into English for use at international conferences such
as The XI International Congress of the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology
(Florence, 1980).
1985-90
I continued translating and organising further medical conferences for the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Rome. I also translated many medical
journals.
1991 to date
I am a freelance translator, working successfully from home. I work with a number of
national and international companies and translation agencies, translating mainly
technical, medical and legal documents and contracts.
While living in Italy, I helped set up the Rome branch of Amnesty International, and was responsible for work on Iran. I taught English to Chilean refugees as part of a rehabilitation scheme. I also translated many documents for Amnesty, including some written by the Brigate Rosse.
I have travelled extensively and enjoy languages. I studied Mandarin Chinese at evening classes for two years in Rome (Associazione Italia-Cina). Also in Rome, I studied German for nine months (Goethe Institut).
I lived in Landskrona, Sweden, for six months, where I attended language classes. I studied Latin and French at school in England.
I use a Pentium 166 MHz MMX Processor with a 28.8 Kbs Modem.
I am currently using Microsoft Office 97, including Word 97.
